Brain Books! (1)

Hey guys! I’m not certain if this is normal, but I make up stories in my head and rarely ever write them down, so they are lost forever..... So I decided that I should start writing them down, and began on Friday. I know this isn’t much to have written for that many days, but it is what I have. (cue dramatic music) Now I present to you the first part of the first chapter of the Brain Books!

I stared at the dog tags in my hand. It was all I had left of her. There was a man sitting on the park bench next to me; he seemed to be watching me. I looked up. "Hello!" he said cheerfully. His eyes were searching my face.
"Hi" I said cautiously. He glanced down at my hands."Those dog tags... Whose are they?" He looked worried; eyebrows furrowed, eyes still searching.
"Should I know you?" I asked shoving the dog tags back into my pocket. This happened far too often in my own hometown.
"If you are the person I think you are. Nicki?" So he did know me, but I didn't recognize him at all. Not even a tug in the back of my mind like there usually was when this happened. "I guess it's been a while... Tom Anderson." He held out his hand; I shook it.
"Tom." I repeated. By now I should have remembered him. What was different this time?
"We went to the same high school" he said with hope in his eyes, but the worry remained. It made for an odd expression.
"I'm sorry. I don't remember. I was in a car accident last year. I lost most of my memory, so this has been happening a lot. How did you know me in high school?"
"Oh... uh... I was friends with Derek Lawson. We would hang out after the football games."
"Oh" Derek had been my high school boyfriend; he was the football team captain. As far as I knew I had been a normal person my whole life until the car crash a year ago.
"So, what do you remember?"
"I remember Derek, and that when they would win a game we would go to the little ice cream shop," I smiled as I replayed the memory in my head, "and Derek would always steal some of my ice cream-"
"Then you would whack him with your spoon, but you never take any of his 'cause you thought coconut ice cream was gross!" he smiled and chuckled.
"Yeah." I smiled again. "What flavor did you get?" Everyone who went to Frederick's Frosted Frozen Treats had one flavor that they would eat, and only one. No exceptions!
"Chocolate Fudge Brownie!"
"That's my favorite too!"
"I remember! You would pile whipped cream and hot fudge on top until your bowl was almost overflowing!"
I still didn't remember Tom Anderson at all, but that didn't mean I didn't know him right? I looked at my watch. I didn't have to be anywhere for hours, but I couldn't keep this up much longer. "Well," I said with a very fake smile, "I should get going. It was nice seeing you again."

"Yeah!" his face couldn't decide whether it should happy, sad, worried, or surprised. I stood up and walked away quickly. That was a close one. I couldn't have anyone, not even old friends, asking about the dag tags.

  1. Loved reading this :) I seem to notice a correlation between your character's ice cream of choice and yours :) Just, ya know, all chocolate, no fruity, whipped cream like crazy (mostly me though :P) and HOT FUDGE!
